COVID-19 has shaken up all of our lives. As different as some of our experiences have been, one thing we can all agree on is that life does not look the same as it did in February 2020.
For me, my life has completely changed. After losing my grandmother early in the pandemic, I decided to leave LA (where I had lived for five years). While I was packing up my house, I matched with my now - fiance on Bumble. We decided to move to Minneapolis, and the rest is history. While there is so much to be joyful about, there has also been a lot to grieve!
And I’m sure you have your own stories of transition, loss, and change.
When there is so much going on, it’s easy to hunker down into survival mode and “just get through the next few weeks.” But when we’re living for the (increasingly uncertain) future, we lose what makes life joyful in the moment - yes, even while we’re going through challenging situations.
The good news is that we can use nature’s cycles to help us get out of survival mode and tap into what’s next. Here are some tips to start to reinvigorate yourself and get excited about life again -
Grieve what’s changed. Our culture has a weird relationship with grief. We want to skip over it as quickly as possible, so we can get back to the bright and cheery stuff. But when we don’t acknowledge and process our losses, we can’t make space for what’s next. Give yourself permission to fully grieve and release your old life, so you can step into your new one.
Ask yourself, how do you want to feel? With so much negativity in the news and in the world it’s easy to feel powerless. But remember that you have the power to shift your perspective and with it, your emotions. There is always something to be grateful for, even if it doesn’t look like it on the surface.
Push yourself out of your comfort zone. We’ve all been in our bubbles for years now, for good reason – but it’s easy to get stuck there. Push yourself to try something new, to break out of your routine, or do something completely out of the ordinary. Your fresh inspiration and energy will thank you!
While so much has changed, it’s within your power to recreate a life you love. These tips will provide a great start!
